OOTS Implementers café #4: ready with eDelivery Access Point for OOTS Projectathon in April?

On February 21, the Once-Only Technical System (OOTS) team hosted the fourth edition of the Implementers Café. Member States and national representatives gathered for the occasion to discuss various aspects of the OOTS implementation: the OOTS Common Services (User experience, data service directory, and evidence broker) and the upcoming OOTS Projectathon, taking place on 19-21 April in Brussels.

During the café, presenters highlighted the crucial role played by the eDelivery message exchange technology within the Once-Only Technical System. In brief, the OOTS will reuse eDelivery to create a virtual secure network, establishing cross-domain and cross-sector interoperability across the EU. This crucial role of eDelivery and its conformant Access Points has already been at the center of past events targeted at both communities, such as the hands-on webinar held on January 26. During that webinar, members of the eDelivery team walked the audience through installing eDelivery conformant Access Points and exchanging messages among them via Domibus.

The OOTS team ended the Implementers Café urging the audience to install an eDelivery conformant Access Point ahead of the first Projectathon in April, as a technical prerequisite for the event. On that note, the community is encouraged to let the team know in case they have not set up an eDelivery conformant Access Point yet. If needed, the eDelivery and OOTS teams are ready to organise another tailored webinar to guide stakeholders in the process. You can read more about the event here and check if you are on the right track for stage 2 – Registration – in regard to achieving the results of the OOTS projectathon (see the visual below).

Meanwhile, the 2023 event calendar goes on full steam! Don’t miss the upcoming webinar on “Exchanging large files with eDelivery” on the Large Message Splitting & Joining function. You can register for the event here and also learn about the other planned eDelivery events here. We are looking forward to welcoming you in our future events and very happy to hear any comments, suggestions and feedback via our portal or by email EC-EDELIVERY-SUPPORT@ec.europa.eu.

The eDelivery Building Block

eDelivery is a building block that provides technical specifications and standards, installable software and ancillary services to allow projects to create a network of nodes for secure digital data exchange.

Domibus is the sample software provided by the European Commission to implement an eDelivery AS4 Access Point for the interoperable, secure and reliable exchange of data. It is based on the eDelivery AS4 profile, an open technical specification for the secure, web-based, payload-agnostic exchange of data or documents.

DomiSMP is the sample software provided by the European Commission to implement an eDelivery Service Metadata Publisher for publishing and retrieving data necessary for an eDelivery party to dynamically configure its system for message exchange with counterparties using eDelivery. It is based on the eDelivery SMP profile, an open technical specification for publishing service metadata within a 4-corner network.

DomiSMLis the sample software provided by the European Commission to implement an eDelivery Service Metadata Locator for an eDelivery party to discover the URLs of other counterparties using eDelivery Access Points and their corresponding metadata. It is based on the eDelivery BDXL profile, an open technical specification for locating Access Points within a network, and on the PEPPOL SML Specification, a technical specification defining a BDXL administration API.

Domibus 5.1 RC has been released!

We are happy to announce the release of Domibus 5.1 RC1 (Release Candidate 1). Domibus is the sample implementation of an eDelivery Access Point maintained by the European Commission.

Domibus 5.1 RC1 includes a number of new features, improvements, and bug fixes:

  • A new method was added to the WS Plugin interface to getStatus based on the messageId and the role of the Access Point. The old method to getStatus based on messageId alone is marked as deprecated and will be removed in a future release;
  • The old backend interface from the WS Plugin distribution was replaced with the new one (WSDL and XSDs);
  • The creation of alerts was simplified;
  • Failed messages (or a selection thereof) can now be resent as batches from the Domibus Admin Console;
  • New page for managing the key store in the Domibus Admin Console;
  • Smart retry feature introduced for failed messages retrials (taking advantage of the monitoring to attempt retry only once the remote party is once again reachable);
  • Progressive retry feature introduced (in addition to constant). Retry attempts can now be scheduled with gradually increasing intervals;
  • Files can be sent to the WS Plugin as references to the file system;
  • New retention policy was added for metadata. The user can now configure Domibus to keep the metadata after the payload was deleted;
  • ... and more (the full list is available on the release page).

Domibus 5.1 RC1 is backward compatible with 5.0.x.

We invite all users to install Domibus 5.1 RC1 in their test environments as early as possible and report any issues they encounter during the upgrade process or during operations to EC-EDELIVERY-SUPPORT@ec.europa.eu. As the final release of Domibus 5.1 is scheduled for 24/03/2023, any major issues to be addressed should be reported by 10/03/2023 at the latest.

You can find more information about the release on this page.
